I have been practising acupuncture since 2005 and since qualification have established
and managed my own busy private practice in Chester, United Kingdom.
My professional training, academic background and a deep understanding that health
encompasses so much more than just the absence of disease leads me to deliver
individually tailored treatment plans to achieve an optimum state of health.
My combined academic and professional background results in an ideal blend of
Eastern philosophy and Western science, and continues to fuel a keen interest in
integrative health care.
Having initially obtained a physiology degree from University of York, I have gained
in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of the body from a western scientific
perspective in both health and disease. My final year thesis was on metabolism in the
oviduct (ie. Fallopian tubes) which gave me valuable insight into the many potential
problems concerning fertility issues.
Still fascinated by health and science, yet driven to achieve a wider vision of health
which sees each individual as a "whole" person, I chose to study my second degree in
Chinese Medicine and graduated with a First Class Honours.
My final year thesis was on an "Integrated (East-West) Approach to the Treatment of
Breast Cancer", which particularly focused on researching the optimum balance of roles
of modern Western medicine oncology treatment and Traditional Chinese Medicine,
herbal medicine and Acupuncture to deliver optimum care at all stages of illness and
recovery. Thus, this along with other types of cancers continues to be an area of great
professional interest to me. Since July 2009, I have been working part-time as a TCM
acupuncturist at Wirral Holistic Care Services (WHCS), Birkenhead, providing support
for cancer patients and their families.
