Academic Background

Fascinated by health and science and having an acute awareness that disease and
discomfort are inseparable from the life that cradles them drive me to achieve a wider
vision of health which sees each individual as a whole person, in dynamic relationship
with their environment. Additionally a deep understanding that health is much more
than simply the absence of disease leads me to deliver individually tailored treatment
plans to help cultivate and maintain an optimum state of health.

My combined academic and professional background results in an ideal blend of
Eastern philosophy and Western science and fuels a keen interest in integrative health
care. Initially having obtained a physiology degree from University of York, I have
gained in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of the body in both health and disease
involving genetics, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, neuroscience,
immunology and nutrition. Having developed a specific interest in reproductive
physiology and developmental biology my final year thesis concentrated on Fallopian
Tube metabolic function and gave me invaluable insight into the wider spectrum of
fertility issues. Supporting all aspects of fertility from pre-conception through pregnancy
and childbirth is an area of continued and deepening specialised professional interest,
knowledge and clinical practice.

I went on to study Chinese Medicine at University of Wales (North East Wales Institute,
now Glyndŵr University) and graduated with a First Class Honours. This course
incorporated study and clinical practise of acupuncture, acupressure, Chinese herbal
medicine, Tui Na massage, medical Qi Gong and nutrition, diet and lifestyle modification
and management. Assimilating my existing academic knowledge of physiology, my final
year thesis concentrated on an integrated (East-West) approach to cancer treatment
and particularly focussed on where traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and
herbal medicine can provide optimum benefit at all stages of illness and recovery, and
when used in combination with allopathic oncology treatments. This continues to be an
area of great professional interest to me and has included practise as a TCM
acupuncturist at Wirral Holistic Care Services (WHCS), Birkenhead, providing support
for cancer patients and their families.

Post graduation my continued interest in reproductive biology has led to specialist
study including courses delivered by Jani White in obstetric acupuncture throughout all
stages of pregnancy, labour, childbirth and recovery, acupuncture for gynaecological
conditions, to promote natural fertility and to support those undergoing Assisted
Reproductive Technologies including IUI and IVF programmes.

Also to ensure I continue to provide the highest standard of care my dedication to
continuing professional development since qualification includes regular attendance at
professional seminars and conferences on all aspects of clinical practice.
